Neshoba County School District

Neshoba County School District's state funding for the 2017-2018 school year is $1,598,535 below the amount required by state law. Statewide, the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP), which funds teachers and classrooms, is underfunded by $213,820,138.

This is the 10th consecutive year that Mississippi has underfunded its public schools. Since 2008, the last time the MAEP was fully funded, students in the Neshoba County School District have been shorted a total of $15,050,169. During this period of annual losses for schools, Mississippi raised its academic standards to among the highest in the country. Public schools must be provided funding that is sufficient to meet those standards.

In state comparisons, Mississippi ranks 16th in the rigor of our academic standards (Education Next, 2015) and 47th in per pupil school spending (Public Education Finances: FY 2015, report published June 2017 by U.S. Census).
